How to Make Your Bedroom Look Like New on a Budget

New Bedroom

You can make certain changes to your bedroom to make you feel like you’ve entered a new room, and these don’t necessarily have to cost a lot of money. Sometimes you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a room, maybe you only need to make a few tweaks to it to revamp the look of it.

While you may choose to splurge on a few pieces, like a good quality duvet cover or an expensive light fixture, there are some small things you can do to make your home look equally as expensive without the cost.

Begin by keeping your clutter to a minimum

Start by organising your bedroom, this way clutter won’t be in the way when you’re trying to revamp your bedroom. Tackling the clutter which is in the messiest spot is the best way to begin as this will get you into the rhythm of cleaning. Remove any clutter from the room and return any items to where they belong. Also clean the room before making any changes, dust, vacuum and deep clean your carpets before starting.

Think about your lighting

Lighting is a really important part of your bedroom, even if you don’t realise it. Lighting helps turn your bedroom from just the place that you sleep, into a comfortable environment for you to relax and rest in. Bedside lamps are a great way of softening the light in your room and making sure that you don’t have to look at a bright light all day long. When the nights are getting darker it can be nice to switch on a lower light and put a candle on. Also, don’t forget about your main light fixtures, it can sometimes be really easy and cheap to change these, so treat yourself to a new lampshade, this may completely change your room.

Add a fresh coat of paint

Don’t underestimate the difference a fresh coat of paint can make, especially if your walls are white. This is a mistake that a lot of people make, but sometimes we don’t refresh the white paint on walls, but once you do, you’ll see a huge difference. White paint can yellow and dull over time, so adding a lick of paint will freshen up your room and will make it both lighter and brighter. If you want to make a lasting change in your bedroom, think about painting an accent wall, sage green, terracotta orange and dark blue are three colours that are very on-trend right now.

Change your bedding

Your bed is probably the central feature of your bedroom, so don’t neglect it. Changing your bed sheets regularly will prevent you from getting bored of the current ones you have on, and is also a good way to add a pattern or bright colour into your bedroom. You can buy duvet covers in so many different colours and a multitude of funky patterns. However, don’t underestimate the impact of white sheets. Although it may remind you of a hotel, plain white sheets will look minimalist in your room and this means you don’t have to think about matching any new colours or decorations to your bedding.

NDC Clean

Elevate your bedside table

Your bedside table can easily become a place that harbours everything you just want to dump and can’t be bothered to put away. Bedside cabinets can often become cluttered with glasses, books and other items you need, but don’t put away. So put it away! Your room can so easily be transformed by changing your bedside table. Style your table by adding a tray and home decorations that match with the rest of your room. Add a vase, some pampas grass or a lamp for that boho look.

Curtains or blinds?

It all depends on personal preference, curtains may seem cosier, but blinds may be more practical. If you’re trying to change your bedroom on a budget, then curtains are probably the way forward. Curtains tend to be a lot cheaper, and often you can put them up yourself rather than getting them professionally measured and installed. Curtains can also add light and warmth to your room as they filter sunlight, whereas blinds tend to shut it out. Saying that blinds are great if you like your room to be super dark when you sleep.

Organise shelving

If you’ve got shelves in your bedroom, keeping them organised will make your room feel less cluttered and therefore bigger. If you rent your home and can’t make permanent changes then command strips will be your best friend when trying to put up shelving or wall prints. When organising your shelving, let’s say a bookshelf, don’t be afraid to add decorative touches when you’re redesigning it. You might have a hobby and love music, if this is the case, it could be cool to add some music-themed art or a mini guitar statue.

D-I-Y!

If you do want to change your bedroom but you are worried about the cost of it all, the easiest way to keep the price down is to do some of the labour yourself. There may be some things you want to change that you can’t do yourself, but if you can do it then definitely give it a go. Most of the things on this list are relatively small and don’t need a professional, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble transforming your room without the need to get someone professional in.

Small changes can go a long way

Subtlety is key here. Making small changes within your room can make a huge difference instantly. We’d argue that tidying and doing a deep clean on your room will make the biggest difference. However, swapping out home decorations and giving your walls a lick of paint can change how the room feels. It’s all about making your bedroom into your own safe little abode where you can feel your calmest. Interior trends will come and go, so decorate your bedroom in a way which you like and which fits your own personality. This way, your bedroom will reflect yourself and you’ll find it will affect your mood in the room too.
